The Maxwell Superyacht Capstan range is primarily built to aid in docking and mooring. For larger vessels having a capstan mounted amidships our astern is often critical in providing operators with full control over the mooring process.
The VC 1500 is commonly found on board vessels between 12m (40’) and 18.5m (60’) in length. All above-deck components are marine grade 316 stainless and the capstan is rotated by a self-locking worm-driven gearbox.
Because of the various loads experienced by the mooring capstan during its operation, and the shorter runtime requirements, most vessel operators and boat builders will choose to follow a “rule of thumb” principle when spec’ing up this portion of their anchoring equipment, i.e. to mount a mooring capstan that is one size smaller than the windlass at the bow (e.g. for a boat with a VWC 8000 at the bow, you’d likely use a VC 6000 in conjunction as a mooring capstan).
Maxwell has more than 50 years of engineering behind its anchoring systems, and is proud to be one board some of the world’s finest superyachts and commercial vessels.
