The HRCFF is Maxwell’s only automatic free-fall windlass and is a compact windlass suited to boats ranging from 5m (16ft) to 11m (36ft).
The HRCFF comes in three different sizes which suit the following chain: 6mm (metric only), 7mm (1/4”), and 8mm (9/16”).
The free fall function is controlled by briefly deploying the anchor from the helm via a switch and letting gravity take over, when you’re ready to stop the fall of the anchor you simply engage the upward switch on the controls which will tighten the clutches and stop the fall of the anchor.
The windlass can also be used without free-fall by simply switching a control lever lever on the front of the HRCFF windlass to non-free-fall mode. This can be left on permanently if desired (i.e. if you prefer not to use the free-fall function) or can be switched back if you’d like to begin using the windlass in free-fall mode once again.
Automatic free fall means that the free fall function is controlled from the helm (via a toggle switch or remote), so no physical contact with the windlass is needed to engage free fall.
Highly favoured by fishermen (who often need to anchor more rapidly so as not to drift from their fishing ground) the HRCFF was designed in conjunction with a number of trailer-boat builders, and was sea tested in some of the harshest marine climates on earth. The HRCFF is a durable, highly functional, and compact unit that has been in service since 2011.
