Maxwell Marine Major RefitDate: 13 May 2013 Maxwell Marine International, the renowned Superyacht anchoring equipment manufacturer based in New Zealand, has recently supplied new windlasses for the refit of a 120-ft steel cruising vessel.
Working closely with Kevin Underwood, Maxwell’s Superyacht representative for North America, the vessel’s project manager replaced the original dual gypsy horizontal hydraulic windlass (in panel, shown above) with two Maxwell VWC6000 vertical hydraulic units (in panel, shown below). The refit included the fabrication of a windlass mounting plinth designed by Maxwell’s engineering office in Auckland. The plinth incorporates the windlass, band brake supports and the chain Stopper/Tensioners. The end result is a more robust anchoring system that has improved functionality and increased performance while offering better ergonomics. Not only do the Maxwell VWC6000’s outperform the previous windlass but they offer a major aesthetic improvement to the foredeck of the yacht.
Confidentiality considerations prevent Maxwell from disclosing any information about the vessel but the captain and owners have graciously allowed Maxwell to publish the attached images of the refit.
